Members of Harold Wood Running Club enjoyed another successful and well-supported weekend, with strong performances across both racing and club competitions.
Nineteen runners represented the club at the popular Horndon on the Hill Dave Staines 10k, one of Essex’s longest-standing community road races.
First staged in 1974 following the revival of the village’s historic Feast and Fayre, the race continues to draw competitors from across the county and remains a firm fixture on the local calendar.
Leading the way for Harold Wood was Tom Miller, who delivered an impressive run to finish in 45.25.
Frances Wilson was the club’s first female finisher, crossing the line in an excellent 52.22.
There was also notable success for Alan Woodroof, who claimed victory in the V70 category, while Stephanie Elsey marked a special occasion by completing the race in her first outing since the birth of her son in February.
The event was also well supported by fellow club members and the local community, whose encouragement helped create a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere throughout the race.
Away from road racing, the club’s annual parkrun cup reached its conclusion last Saturday, as Hayley Smith and Mark Webb went head-to-head in the final.
Webb emerged victorious to be crowned this year’s champion, with the trophy set to be presented at the club’s summer party later this month.
