Residents in a Hornchurch street could soon be given parking permits after reports of "long-term, non-residential parking" in the area.
Havering Council has launched a public consultation on plans to introduce a Permit Parking Area (PPA) on the road in front of numbers 1 to 63 Wingletye Lane.
A PPA gives parking priority to residents and their visitors through a permit system.
Only vehicles with a valid permit would be allowed to park in the designated area during the scheme’s hours of operation.
The council said it has proposed the scheme in response to concerns raised about "long-term, non-residential parking in the area".
On its consultation website, the council said: "This measure ensures that residents living within the zone are protected from having to compete with non-residents for the on-street parking provisions."
Unlike traditional schemes with marked bays, a PPA relies on signage at entry points to indicate that parking is restricted to permit holders during certain times.
Residents would still be able to park as usual on the road, as long as they have a valid permit during the hours of operation.
Permits in Havering are virtual, meaning drivers do not get a paper permit to display and instead use MiPermit's app or website to register for one.
Existing parking rules would remain in place, including restrictions on parking across dropped kerbs - except your own - or on double yellow lines.
The proposal also includes a small number of pay-by-phone parking bays for short-term use by other road users, and the removal of existing single yellow lines on the street.
The council is encouraging all affected residents to complete a questionnaire and share their views via its consultation page.
Feedback will help shape the final decision on whether to introduce the scheme and, if approved, will inform the operational hours.
The consultation opened on September 23 and will close on October 19.
