Fit-out works have started at a new clothes shop preparing to open in Romford.
New Peacocks signs have now been installed at the former Leading Labels unit in The Mercury Shopping Centre, as works to transform the store get underway.
When the Recorder visited on Wednesday (September 23), the unit was mostly empty other than yellow ladders and workers visible at the back of the store.
The shop's shutter was partly open and spotlights were on by the entrance.
Peacocks is expected to open "in a few weeks time", a spokesperson for The Mercury confirmed, joining Toytown as the latest new arrivals at the centre.
The fashion retailer was once previously located at The Mercury before it appointed administrators in 2020, closing branches across east London in the process.
One other Peacocks branch remains in Havering, located in Hornchurch High Street.
All of the units at The Mercury are now understood to be filled, with Toytown taking the place of The Entertainer, which closed in January.
It opened with a "soft launch" on September 9, but has a "launch celebration day" planned, according to a post on The Mercury's Facebook page.
