A boy from east London almost achieved full marks in his GCSE maths - but says he only revised for an hour in total.
Kingsley Godfrey, 15, from Tower Hamlets, scored 237 out of 240 in maths after taking his GCSE a year early.
The Haggerston School student said he only revised for an hour in total, and relied on his knowledge of the subject for the rest.
His result was among the best achieved nationally.
Kingsley said: “I love maths and have always been good at it so I thought I may as well take it one year early and get it out the way.
“I revised for about an hour in total because I knew that I had all the information I needed for the exam.
“I don’t recommend it as a tactic because I have always practiced maths outside of school anyway.
“My grandad was a maths teacher so every week we would sit down and practice maths together.
“He did not help me with my homework because he has had some health problems, but he is the reason I have done so well.”
Haggerston School reported a rise in its English and maths GCSE pass rate this year, from 46 per cent last year to 60pc this time round.
Results for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds also improved, with 50pc achieving grade five or higher in both subjects, compared with 34pc last year.
Headteacher Saad Anjum said: “We are incredibly proud of our students today. These results demonstrate their extraordinary commitment to their studies and the tireless support of our school community.
“To see so many high grades and personal bests is a testament to what can be achieved through perseverance and ambition.”
