A bus route has been extended to serve Harold Wood station from Essex every 20 minutes for a £3 fare.
First Bus Essex has extended its B1 service to run from Basildon, through Laindon and now to Harold Wood station.
Previously, the B1 route terminated at Laindon.
The journey, which will cost travellers a set £3 fare, has been extended to facilitate direct access to the Elizabeth line via Harold Wood.
The newly adapted route launched last Sunday (July 26) and offers an accessible journey to Romford, Ilford, central London and Heathrow Airport terminals.
A First Bus spokesperson said: “As of 26 July 2026, we are pleased to confirm we have extended our service B1 to Harold Wood station - now taking in Westmayne, the A127, Hall Lane, Shepherds Hill and Gubbins Lane.
"The new extension will mean we operate up to every 20 minutes, and for just £3, offer improved connectivity with Elizabeth line services to and from central London.”
First Bus estimates the journey from Basildon to Harold Wood to take around 35 to 40 minutes whilst the journey in the opposite direction may take around 40 to 50 minutes.
This change is part of a wider update to the First Bus south Essex network, which includes adjustments to the B2 and B3 services as well as the introduction of a brand-new B6 service replacing the Langdon Hills coverage previously provided by the B2.
Head of network for Essex, East & Midlands, Julian Elliott, said: “This comprehensive review will introduce improved connections across the region.
“We’ve looked carefully at how and where we can deliver easier travel, be it on busy inter-urban routes, links to healthcare, integration with rail services and seasonal travel to support the regional economy.”
