Plans for new signs at a Romford shopping centre have been approved despite concerns raised about anti-social behaviour and graffiti.
The Brewery shopping centre, in Waterloo Road, has had its plans for four new entrance signs, two chimney signs and a welcome totem approved by Havering Council.
These signs are part of The Brewery's "rebranding" and will feature a new logo, with a bright yellow 'B' over a black background.
The new signs were approved with conditions - which dictate how bright they can be and what type of images can be displayed - but the planning officer's report published alongside the decision reveals that concerns were raised by some organisations consulted about the plans.
Transport for London (TfL) raised concerns that the solid welcome totem proposed to replace the current pole and sign would "impact natural surveillance", as well as "enabling anti-social behaviour".
Although it has "no strategic objections", TfL also worried that the new solid totem would "impose a greater barrier to the movement" of disabled people, parents with prams and those who are visually impaired.

Romford Civic Society also worried about the height of the proposed sign at the eastern arcade entrance, and that the material used would not be "resistant enough to tagging and graffiti".
However, the planning officer concluded that the height of the sign would "not be considered "incongruous or out of scale or character" with the surrounding area.
They also noted that CCTV is already located on site for public protection, and addressed TfL concerns about access, saying that the "length of the pavement is wide enough to not impact on pedestrian movement".
The planning officer's report said: "Although, the concerns raised by the TfL officer are noted, however, the proposed sign is within the town centre with similar totem signs recently approved at different locations within the town centre, therefore, it would be considered to be in keeping with other signs in its immediate and surrounding area."
