Overnight maintenance works at the Dartford Crossing are set to continue this week after a significant hydraulic liquid spill caused disruptions.

The spill, which occurred on October 21 during essential maintenance on one of the northbound tunnels, led to the closure of the east tunnel as around 400 meters of road required resurfacing.

That meant capacity for northbound traffic was reduced by 50 per cent and drivers were advised to avoid the area as significant disruption lasted into the evening.

Despite the disruption, overnight closures are still planned for the last week in October, according to the National Highways website.

Running through to Monday, October 29, both the anticlockwise and northbound tunnels will experience closures during late hours, with diversions in place via National Highways roads.

The Dartford Crossing, previously known as the Dartford Tunnel until 1991, is a major road crossing over the River Thames in England.

It connects Dartford in Kent (south) to Thurrock in Essex (north) via the A282 road.
