A petition opposing the development of service stations between junctions 27 and 28 of the M25 has been launched by disgruntled locals.
The petition, which has been signed around 400 times, was created following the application by motorway service provider Moto to introduce the services.
According to the proposal, twin stations would be built on either side of the main road, serving both clockwise and anti-clockwise traffic.
The development is under consideration by Brentwood Council and if approved, could create around 400 new jobs.
In the application, Moto claims that the project would mean an £80million investment to the area.
A Moto spokesperson previously told the Recorder: "These services are another milestone in Moto’s purpose to brighten people's journeys through life and enhance road safety, by offering motorists a safe place to rest, refresh, and refuel on this stretch of the M25, thereby reducing the risks associated with fatigued driving."
However the petition, created by Simon Crump, claims that the development of service stations would be an "attack" on the area.
It is urging the council to refuse planning permission.
The petition claims: "This area, nestled between J28 and J27 of the M25, is under threat from Moto's proposed service station, which starkly represents the encroaching urbanisation of our cherished green spaces.

"This isn't just an attack on nature—it is an attack on our community.
"Our peace would be shattered, with noise disruption becoming a common problem, disturbing us in our own homes."
Moto was contacted for a comment but did not respond.
