A radical preacher, a paedophile scout leader and an ex-Premier League footballer are among the east Londoners locked up last month.
Here are the names and faces of the men judges have put behind bars in July 2024.
Michael Costin
Paedophile Romford scout leader Michael Costin was jailed for 15 years after one of his victims gave impact testimony from beyond the grave, via a written letter to his parents almost 25 years ago.
A string of former boy scouts gave harrowing accounts at Snaresbrook Crown Court of how their childhoods had been destroyed by Costin.
But one victim was represented by his father, having died before he could see his abuser brought to justice.
“I have an absolute abhorrence towards this defendant,” the victim’s father told the court. “He will definitely reoffend should he be released back into society.”
The man’s son had disclosed his abuse decades earlier in a letter, detailing the “shame” he suffered as a result.
Costin, 59, was already serving an indeterminate prison sentence, having amassed a catalogue of prior child sex convictions in Oxford, Suffolk and east London.
But since last summer he has been convicted of abusing another 14 children.
Four were molested while Costin was a scout leader at St Augustine’s Church, Rush Green, in the 1980s.

Nathan Ashton
Former Premier League footballer Nathan Ashton, 37, was jailed for 16 years for raping a woman while she slept in Romford.
He carried out the attack in the early hours of February 19 2023, following a night out at a bar in Shoreditch.
Ashton offered the woman and her friends a lift home.
Once at the address in Romford, Ashton decided to stay with the three women.
After they all decided to go to bed and fell asleep in different rooms, Ashton entered a woman's room and raped her.
The woman reported the attack to the police, who then launched their investigation.
When he was brought in to the police station for questioning, Ashton denied the rape had happened and insisted that the sex was consensual but a jury found otherwise.
Hamza Alam
Hamza Alam, 22, from Romford, was jailed for four years for glorifying terrorism on social media.
Alam was arrested in June 2022 following an investigation by the Met Police’s Counter Terrorism Command into an online messaging channel.
His devices showed he was an administrator on a Telegram channel - going by the acronym H - where he shared terrorist publications that encouraged Jihad.
The 22-year-old called himself an online librarian during his police interview.
Officers also identified posts on Alam’s social media channels that glorified Daesh fighters and promoted extreme violence.
Some also encouraged the commission and preparation of terrorist acts.

Anjem Choudary
Radical preacher Anjem Choudary, from Ilford, has been jailed for life after he was convicted of terror offences after he ran lectures "seeking to influence and radicalise a new generation of extremists".
The 57-year-old was found guilty of directing a terrorist organisation, membership of a proscribed organisation, and encouraging support for a terrorist organisation.
It follows his arrest on July 17, 2023, at his home address after an investigation by the Met, MI5, and police forces in New York and Canada revealed he was running and directing Al-Muhajiroun (ALM).
In the autumn of 2021, the New York City Police Department (NYPD) alerted UK officers to a group called the Islamic Thinkers Society (ITS) that Choudary was becoming involved with.
The NYPD had been running an undercover investigation of its own when the link was revealed.
After months-long investigations, detectives believed to suspect that the ITS group in New York was covering as a continuation and extension of the banned Al-Muhajiroun terror group.
Choudary was found to be hosting and running ITS lectures for groups on encrypted platforms.
More than a decade's worth of evidence was combed through to solidify the links between ALM, ITS, and Choudary.
This included covert recordings from the radical preacher's home address, capturing conversations with his wife about his involvement in the group.

The pair approached the teenage girl when she was out with a friend in central London on July 11, 2021.
They coerced her to get in a car then drove her to Atenis’ address where they both raped her.
The young victim managed to leave the house in the early hours of the following morning and phoned police.
She provided important details to assist police including a description of the car they drove, the address they took her to and Atenis’ number.
Following a three-week trial at Wood Green Crown Court in February both men were both found guilty of rape.
Atenis was jailed for 13 years while Domingos was jailed for 12.

Jake Port
Jake Port, 35, of Whalebone Lane North in Romford, was caught travelling the wrong way down the M25 in his van.
Police had been deployed to the scene after receiving multiple 999 calls from the public in the early hours of February 21.
He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving. When breathalysed at the roadside, it was found he was twice the legal drink drive limit.
During his interview at Grays police station, Port admitted driving the wrong way down the road but said this was because the closure of the other side of the motorway for roadworks meant he was running out of fuel.
Port was jailed for a year and fined £200. He was also disqualified from driving for two years and eight months.
