A free food festival and dog show are coming to Romford for the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Hosted by Romford Business Improvement District (BID), the Food Festival and Dog Show is said to be the first of its kind for the area.

The Romford Food Festival will take place on Sunday, May 26 from 10am to 6pm and Monday, May 27 from 10am to 3pm.

Visitors can expect food stalls and entertainment at Market Place and South Street, as well as extra events at The Liberty and The Brewery shopping centres.

The "foodie extravaganza" will offer a variety of culinary experiences including street food stalls, a gourmet food market and a farmer’s market.

Talks, tastings and interactive workshops are also planned for those looking to improve their culinary skills.

Live music and free family entertainment will be provided throughout the weekend.

A "make and bake" competition across the weekend will give baking enthusiasts a chance to showcase their skills.

The inaugural Romford BID dog show is set for Sunday, May 26.

Dogs with the waggiest tails, best fancy dress, and best tricks will be up for prizes.

Registration will take place from 10am to 12pm in the Market Place, with the show lasting from 12pm to 4pm.

The entry fee per category is £1.50, with all proceeds going to Scruffys Angels, a local charity who rescue and rehome animals.

The entire weekend is open to the public with no need to pre-book.

Romford BID director Julie Frost said: "We’ve pulled out all the stops to put on an exceptional, varied food market that should appeal to all tastes and interests.

"There’s going to be so much to enjoy all weekend from talks, tutorials, competitions, live music and of course lots of delicious food.

"I’m also super excited about our dog show as I know our community contains some real dog lovers that are looking to show off how amazing their dogs are – plus I hope to see dogs dressed in their very best outfits, ready to win some awards."
