Strike action has been announced which will affect the c2c rail network and east London commuters early next month.

The Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) announced sa strike is planned for April 8 for c2c services amid an ongoing dispute over rail drivers' pay.

Action short of strikes, where members will refuse to work their rest days, is planned from April 4 to 6, and from April 8 to 9.

Rob Mullen, c2c managing director, said: “I’m really disappointed that an agreement with Aslef hasn’t been reached.

"The impact of this ongoing action is significant for our customers and colleagues."

Mick Whelan, general secretary of Aslef, said his members were choosing to strike since many have not had a pay increase for half a decade amid rising inflation and higher living costs.

A Rail Delivery Group spokesperson said train companies are working through plans to manage the disruption and minimum service levels could be a tool they use.

c2c has outlined options for its customers, including claiming refunds if their service has been cancelled, delayed or rescheduled.
