An inquest is set to open into the death of a pensioner who was killed outside Harold Wood train station.

Bernard Fowler, 87, of Havering, was found with extensive injuries on the morning of February 27 after he was said to have stepped out to collect his local paper.

British Transport Police, Met Police and London Ambulance Service attended the scene after 4.30am that day, but despite their best efforts, Bernard was declared dead.

East London Coroner's Court is set to host the opening of an inquest into his death tomorrow (March 8). 

Sekai Miles, 22, from Brent Cross in Hendon, has been charged with murder and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on May 24 when he will be asked to enter pleas.

He is however not due to face trial until 2025, as the provisional trial date has been set as January 2 next year.

BTP continues to carry out enquiries into the case and this week renewed its appeal for witnesses or anyone with CCTV or other footage from the area to come forward.
