An appeal has been issued for CCTV or video footage one week after a pensioner was killed outside Harold Wood train station.

Bernard Fowler, 87, of Havering, was killed on February 27 when he was said to be on his way to buy his local paper.

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the station just after 4.30am after a member of rail staff reported seeing a badly injured Bernard outside.

The Met Police and London Ambulance Service attended the incident alongside BTP officers, but despite the best efforts of emergency services, Bernard was declared dead at the scene.

In a fresh appeal for witnesses, BTP has urged anyone who may have CCTV or video footage from the area in the time leading up to Bernard's death to come forward.

Sekai Miles, 22, from Brent Cross in Hendon, has been charged with murder and is due to appear at the Old Bailey on May 24 next when he will be asked to enter pleas.

There was some confusion about what his name was – on court lists his name is given as Sekai Miles, though the British Transport Police (BTP) named him as Miles Skai. 

He is however not due to face trial until 2025, as the provisional trial date has been set as January 2 next year.

Bernard’s family had described him as a “dearly loved brother, father and grandfather” who had lived in the area for 20 years.

“The family are devastated by the news of his death," they said.
