A choirmaster has been found guilty of sexually abusing children, causing them 'lifelong trauma'. 

Thomas Rodgers, 44, of Billericay was convicted of indecent assault on a male aged 8-11, and indecency with children aged 8-11 and 5-7 at Snaresbrook Crown Court on December 5.

Rodgers is the musical director of Hornchurch Can't Sing choir and has worked with other choirs in Essex, as well as teaching music privately. 

Liam Woon, the investigating police constable, said: “The offences in this case took place in the late 90s when the victims were children.

"That trauma has followed them throughout their lives."

Rodgers has been bailed to appear at the same court for sentencing on January 10.

On January 5 in 2019, police received a report of sexual assault committed against two boys under the age of 14 in Havering.

Rodgers, following an East Area Police investigation, was arrested on February 10 that year on suspicion of sexual assault.

He was charged by postal requisition on March 10,2023.

“I hope this conviction brings the victims a sense of closure and highlights that no matter how much time has passed, we will investigate all reports of sexual abuse with a view to placing those responsible before the courts,” PC Woon added.
