We have taken a look back at historic images of some of Havering's major roads and roundabouts.

From Gallows Corner, captured in 1972, to The Drill junction at Gidea Park in the 1960s, these photos capture the nostalgia of the borough's thoroughfares.

This photo of the famous flyover was taken between 1970 and 1972, shortly after it was installed.

It shows the bridge leading around onto the A127 towards Southend, according to Havering Libraries.

Avenue Industrial Estate and Romford Motor Company garage can also be seen to the left of the photo.

This photo shows Southend Arterial Road at the junction of North Street and Havering Road, captured in the 1920s.

Marshalls Park Garage was in North Street, as was a RAC agent selling Shell gas at that time, according to Havering Libraries.

Broadway in Rainham, circa 1973-1975

Those coming into Rainham will have passed two historic pubs, The Bell on the left, just in the distance, and The Angel, which can be seen on the right.

Havering Libraries pointed out a 103 bus waiting next to The Angel.

At the centre is the War Memorial just in front of the Norman church of St Helen and St Giles.

Here you can see The Drill, a fresh roundabout at the time, looking towards the church which opened in 1958, according to Havering Libraries.

The church sits on the corner of Brentwood Road and Manor Avenue.

Still standing today is The Drill pub in Brentwood Road.

This photo shows the entrance to Hornchurch via the road bridge in Butts Green Road.
