Hundreds of Doctor Who fans attended an exhibition to celebrate the show’s 60 years in Upminster.

The ‘Madame Who’sauds’ event on Sunday (April 30) saw more than 400 people visit the display at St Laurence Church Hall.

Three Tardis models, four Daleks, costumes of all fourteen Doctors and other memorabilia from the show were among those showcased.

Actor John Levene, who played Sergeant Benton from 1968 to 1975, also made an appearance and took pictures with visitors.

The event was organised by full-time gardener and an avid fan of the show, James Lowe, who built some of the props himself.

James told the Recorder that he had grown up watching the show as a child and had been immersed in its world ever since.

He said: “Nearly everyone I speak to knows what Doctor Who is, so it is something to bond over. It’s the longest running sci-fi series in the world after all.”

The event raised more than £2,000 for Dementia UK, a charity James decided to support after seeing people he knew have the condition.

He added: “Every one who visited couldn't believe the amount of stuff was there, and the event exceeded my expectations."
