A Post Office branch in Romford is in the midst of an eight-week refurbishment after coming under new ownership.
A sign on the door of the Brentwood Road Post Office informing customers it was to be closed from 1pm on December 29 “until further notice” saw some people querying online what had happened to the shop.
One asked for further information in a Facebook post, adding that the space appeared to be “partially cleared out”.
A Post Office spokesperson has now confirmed the closure is due to a recent change in ownership.

The spokesperson said: “They [the new postmaster] are refurbishing the shop, making it bigger and brighter. We anticipate that the renovations will take around eight weeks to complete.
"Once complete, local residents will benefit from a modern, bright shop and Post Office which will be open longer hours than previously.”
According to Post Office’s website, the two nearest branches while the Brentwood Road site is closed are on Victoria Road and in The Liberty shopping centre.
