Aldi has announced the opening date of its new Romford supermarket, with a Team GB gold medallist set to cut the ribbon on launch day.
Plans to turn the Rom Valley Way Mothercare World into an Aldi were approved by Havering Council last December.
After confirming things were "progressing well" in May, the supermarket chain has now announced it will be welcoming customers from 8am on November 17.
Leaning into its collaboration with Team GB, Aldi will also have boxing gold medallist Luke Campbell in attendance.
As well as cutting the ribbon, Luke will be giving away bags of fresh fruit and vegetables from Aldi’s Super 6 range to the first 30 customers.
Store manager Ana Maniakina said: “We can’t wait to open the doors to the new store in Romford. It’s set to be a special day and having Olympic hero Luke Campbell join us will make it a morning to remember.”
Mr Campbell added: “I’m so excited to be opening Aldi’s new store; it will be great to chat to customers and a lovely way for me to thank Aldi for its support of Team GB.”
The new store will be open 8am to 10pm Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
