Killerwhales Swimming Club were competing again over the last two weekends focusing on 800m and 1500m races.

A number of swimmers took part with many children swimming these distances for the first time and setting PBs, with a huge number of new Essex qualifying times, club records and medals.

A group of 10 swimmers competed over 800m at Basildon's Long Distance Meet, with Poppy Jeffrey winning gold in a club record time of 9.25.34, beating a mark set in 2001.

Alanna Henry, Lewis Hall and Tom Gutridge all achieved Essex qualifying times in their first outings at this distance, with Henry winning gold, Hall silver and Gutridge breaking a club record set in 2009.

Cayden Shanahan brought home bronze and an Essex QT, while Joshua Kicks also swam a superb race to record a club record in his age group.

Seven swimmers returned to Basildon on Saturday for the 1500m Long Distance meet and combine for an impressive two gold medals, four silver and a bronze, as well as two club records and four Essex QTs.

Henry and Emily Scott took home gold and silver respectively in the 11-year-old group, both breaking the previous club record set in 2008.

In the 13-year-age group Jeffrey took the gold medal for the girls also setting a new club record and Stanley Piggott took silver for the boys.

Shanahan came home with silver in the 14-year-age group and Ben Palmer took silver in the 17-year-age group.

In the senior age group Tommy Dudman won bronze, smashing his PB in a time of 17.06.71.
