Two women have been arrested after suspected stolen tools and golf equipment were found by police at a car boot sale in Rainham.

The arrests come as Essex Police are investigating reports of a spate of thefts from vehicles across Brentwood that are believed to be connected.

The force said that officers attended a car boot sale in Rainham on September 1 as part of enquiries into the alleged thefts.

At the event, two women aged 58 and 19 were arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

The women, both from Brentwood, have since been released on bail as the investigation continues.

Police are now appealing to the public to try to reunite the tools, described as of high value, and golf equipment with their rightful owners.

A spokesperson for the force said: "We are appealing for the public’s help to reunite these items, which we believe were stolen, with their owners.

"If you believe that these items are yours or have any information which could support the investigation, please contact us quoting incident number 1254 of 31 August.

"Please be prepared to be asked for proof of ownership such as serial numbers or receipts of purchase."

If you believe any of the items could be yours, a report can be submitted on the Essex Police website or by using the online Live Chat.
