The family of a company director who died after being crushed by a pallet has paid tribute to a "kind and selfless soul".

Dmitrij Dacenko, 45, of Follet Street in Poplar, was named yesterday (August 15) as the man who died following an incident in Suttons Business Park, Rainham, on August 5.

He was struck by a pallet and pronounced dead at the scene after London's Air Ambulance attended with police, who were called at 1.41pm that day.

Another man was injured but his condition declared not life-threatening.

Dmitrij's family have today (August 16) penned an emotional tribute to the 45-year-old after a GoFundMe page was set up in his memory.

"His departure has left a void in our lives that can never be filled," his family said.

"Dmitrij was a kind and selfless soul, always ready to offer a helping hand to anyone in need.

"His generosity and warmth touched the lives of many, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him," the family added.

Dr Shirley Radcliffe, assistant coroner for east London, today (August 16) opened an inquest into Dmitrij's death at East London Coroner's Court in Walthamstow.

Dmitrij was found to have suffered "multiple traumatic injuries" after an incident during the delivery of heavy machinery.

Dr Radcliffe said: "The lorry driver was pushing the pallet to the rear of the tail lift.

"Dmitrij tried to stop it himself - unfortunately the pallet fell, crushing him."

After the hearing, we approached Dmitrij's family who announced their "profound sadness" at his death.

"Though our lives will never be the same without him, he will remain forever in our hearts," his family said.

"Rest in peace, dear Dmitrij. You are deeply missed and will never be forgotten."

Dmitrij, who had been director of P-Metals Limited since January 2022, according to Companies House, leaves behind a loving family including a young child.

A GoFundMe in his honour has been set up by relative Severina Oborotova with £2,825 of its £4,000 target donated so far.

You can donate to the fundraiser at www.gofundme.com/f/dmitrij-dacenko, the proceeds going to covering his family's immediate expenses, such as funeral bills.
