A series of changes have been proposed to a major Romford shopping centre including fresh signs and entrance renovations.

Applicant Romford Shopping Centre Limited submitted plans, A0016.24, for six signs and three digital screens at entrance one of The Liberty in Western Road, received by Havering Council on June 4.

In a separate application, P0791.24, from the same developer, changes to the main entrance of The Liberty, including the installation of projecting signs and a digital screen clock, were made.

This would also see a lit ceiling system installed under The Liberty's tower and the refurbishment of its steel columns.

A third application, A0018.24, bids to install lit and non-lit signs in the shopping centre car park of the site, which is within the Romford Conservation Area.

Another application, P0798.24, has bid for outside changes to entrances two, five, six and nine of the shopping centre.

It proposes new entrance doors which could be granted with lighting and timber-effect metal cladding.

"Proposals for renovation and new signage at each entrance form part of a consistent scheme across the site locations at the shopping centre," a heritage statement from application A0016.24 states.

"The style of redecoration is designed to be marked and recognisable, suitable for directing pedestrians/ vehicles into the shopping centre from busy streets," the heritage statement from agent Turley adds.

All four applications were either made on June 4 or 5 this year.

All four applications for The Liberty have decision dates either on July 30 or 31, when the council will either grant or refuse the proposals.
