A car crashed into another vehicle in Elm Park following a police chase, leaving two men in hospital.

At 3.35am today (September 28) police attempted to stop a car in Hornchurch after it was reported stolen at an alleged knifepoint robbery in east London on Monday (25 September).

The car allegedly failed to stop and a pursuit was authorised, police said.

Following a chase, it collided with another car at the junction of Rainham Road and Coniston Way in Elm Park at 3.40am.

Police requested the support of the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and the London Fire Brigade.

An LAS spokesperson said: “We were called today at 3.42am to reports of a road traffic collision between two cars at the junction between Rainham Road and Coniston Way, Hornchurch.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an incident response officer, two ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, and a medic in fast-response car.

"We also dispatched a trauma team from London’s Air Ambulance.

“We treated two people at the scene, before taking them to hospital.”

A man in the car that allegedly failed to stop was taken to hospital where he remains and his injuries are not life-threatening or life-changing.

He has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and failing to stop for the police.

The driver of the other car, a man in his 40s, was also taken to hospital and his injuries are not life-threatening.

Road closures remain in place.

The Met's professional standards team has been informed and the Independent Office for Police Conduct has been notified.

London Fire Brigade (LFB) crews also attended, including teams from Dagenham and Wennington.

"We were called by the Metropolitan Police to a road traffic collision on Rainham Road [...] overnight," a spokesperson said.

"Two vehicles were involved - no one was trapped," he added.

LFB was called at 3.43pm and the incident was over for its crews by 4.05pm.

Two fire engines from Dagenham and Wennington Fire Station, and a rescue unit from East Ham station attended.
