A man has been charged after Mark Cavendish was seriously assaulted at his family home.
The professional road race cyclist was violent threatened in front of his family during a break-in at his home in the Ongar area of Essex on November 27, 2021.
The intruders targeted his house in the early hours of the morning and made off with a Louis Vuitton suitcase and two watches.
On Monday (June 5), Jo Jobson, 26, of no fixed abode, was charged with two counts of robbery in relation to the incident, and two counts of attempted GBH in relation to a separate incident in July 2022.
He appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (June 6).
The charges come after two men, Ali Sesay, 28 of Windsor Road, Croydon, and Romario Henry, 31, of Bell Green, Lewisham, were jailed in February for a combined total of 35 years for their parts in the November 2021 incident.
Essex Police said that they are still searching for another man, George Goddard, who they wish to speak to as part of their investigation.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Atkin, who has led our investigation, said: “These charges are a significant milestone in this case and further shows our commitment to securing justice for burglary and robbery victims across Essex.
“The team’s work will now begin in earnest, again, and we will seek, through colleagues in the Crown Prosecution Service, to present the strongest possible case in court.
“At this stage, George Goddard remains outstanding, and we are continuing our efforts to locate him and I would reiterate my message to him; you cannot stay hidden forever; those who may be helping you cannot help you forever. It is in your best interests to come forward.”
