A supermarket was called out by a customer after one of its Havering stores had anti-semitic and anti-vaccine graffiti on its walls.

Sainsbury's was caught in the row when Twitter user Cayden Blade posted pictures of the messages at a store in Romford.

One featured a slur against Jewish people and another opposed the Covid vaccine.

He claimed in his post on May 31 that, despite staff being made aware of it in the past, the graffiti had not been cleaned off.

A Sainsbury's spokesperson confirmed that the graffiti has now been removed but denied that the managers at the store were previously informed about it.

They said: “We strive to be an inclusive retailer where our colleagues and customers love to work and shop and believe hate speech and racism are unacceptable.

“We have removed the graffiti and we apologise for any offence this may have caused.”
