Students at a Romford secondary school pitched in to fill hampers with festive treats for families in need.

The home school support team at the Royal Liberty School was hard at work in the weeks leading up to Christmas, collaborating with local businesses and other donors to pull together a range of food, toiletries and presents. 

These were then loaded into hampers by GCSE design and technology students at the school, before being delivered to members of the community struggling with the cost-of-living crisis. 

The school said it knew some people would be hit particularly hard by rising costs over the festive period, so decided the best way to help was to provide items to help them through into the new year.

In total, enough goodies for 17 hampers were secured and sent out to families just ahead of Christmas. 

Headteacher Lee Raftery said: “We made a concerted effort to ensure our families were well supported and we are grateful for the response. We will definitely do this each year - a new Royal Liberty tradition."
