LINDA ELIZABETH SHOOP
Linda Elizabeth Shoop (nee Rolfe) Dec. 15/46 – Jan 22/19 Some readers may remember Linda growing up in Harold Park; worshipping at St. Peter’s, Harold Wood; attending Harold Court, Heath Park and Romford Technical Schools; studying at Brentwood Teacher Training College; or teaching at Broadmead Primary School. She married and returned to Canada with me in 1969 where we have raised four children. Her vocations were as wife, mother & teacher. Proverbs 31 gives voice to the excellence with which she fulfilled these callings: “A capable woman is far more precious than jewels…” Linda lived her last months knowing she was dying of pancreatic cancer, but with the faith, grace & dignity expressed in a poem by Jane Kenyon, which I quote in part: “ Let the light of the late afternoon shine through chinks in the barn, moving up the bales as the sun moves down… Let it come, as it will & don’t be afraid. God does not leave us comfortless, so let the evening come.” A suitable act of remembrance would be to read a story to a child. There will be a gathering on August 17th in Duncan, B.C., Canada to which all friends are welcome. If you have a story to share or wish more details, please contact me at glshoop@telus.net. Linda’s loving husband, Gregg.
